Oak to Cherry Finish
Here's an easy way to change the finish of a picture frame. I had a picture frame in an oak finish but decided I wanted to change the look to cherry. I tried looking for picture frames in that finish but not only were they expensive, but also hard to find. I got tired of looking around, so I decided to spend a few dollars on acrylic paints (found in most stores for under a dollar each) and I put some colors together to achieve the "cherry" finish. Simply, combine a "berry wine" color and brown (preferably dark brown or "burnt umber") and with a brush apply first the brown color. Cover most of the area and then, while still a little wet, go over with the burgundy color but covering part of the area, here and there trying not to cover all the brown.
