This piece of furniture was easy to make and it gives the room a very nice and elegant look. Everything started when we bought a metal bed (headboard and footboard) and somehow got the wrong pieces from the manufacturer. It came with some pedestals to attach the headboard and footboard to, but for some reason the manufacturer sent the wrong pedestals, so the bed could not be put together. After trying to fix the problem, the manufacturer kept going away and did not want to fix the screw up, so here I was with a full bed that could not be assembled. The parts were nice, and it was a shame I was stuck with this niece piece of furniture, so why not make it into something else that would decorate another room in my house and still be functional?
I thought of still using part of the bed. I got the headboard and thought that maybe I could attach a base to it and make something to sit on. So, we took some measurements, went to the store and got some wood. The base consists of just wood put together to make a box. The back is open so that you can use it as storage as well. So, after putting the "box" together, I had to give it a nice look. I decided to go with a stucco finish. I had plenty of drywall compound at home, so I started coating the wood unevenly to give it a rough, stone like look. Once it was dry, I picked a color to match the headboard and painted it. I liked it, but thought it needed a little more of a detail, so I got some inexpensive wood engravings at the local hardware store and stuck them on the box after painting them with the same color of the box.
Now the headboard and baseboard were on place. I needed some cushions. I went to Walmart and got some foam - square and wrapped them in some fabric I had laying around and got a couple more of extra pillows. I tried to go with the colors of my home, but this can be done with any color you want. I finally put my bed together into a couch and ended up not only with a nice looking seat, but also a place to store!
